On 23 June 2026 both Mississippi Senators voted against the War Powers Resolution, which passed the Senate in a 50-48 vote. This concurrent resolution would halt the U. S. military campaign against Iran. Senator Wicker said the effort was unnecessary. Senator Hyde-Smith said the President has the necessary authority under the War Powers Act*. *Editor’s note: To the best of my knowledge Congress has not authorized the War Powers Act for military participation in Iran. If this is Hyde-Smith’s understanding of the War Powers Act, she needs to be replaced by Scott Colom.
