From our Senators

Reply from Sen Hyde-Smith re: Save Act:

June 30, 2026

Dear ….:

Thank you for your recent correspondence regarding elections.

I am a proud cosponsor of the Save America Act of 2026. This legislation seeks to amend the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 to require proof of United States citizenship to register an individual to vote in elections for Federal office and require a photo identification when voting in federal elections. On January 29, 2026, this legislation was introduced and referred to the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration, where it awaits further action.

The confidence of the American people in our election processes is essential to our democracy. We should know that all ballots are cast correctly and legally by eligible voters. As the Senate continues working to address this important matter, I will keep your thoughts in mind.

It is a great privilege to represent the people of Mississippi, and I will always strive to justify the confidence that has been placed in me as your United States Senator.

Having the benefit of your views is important to me. I appreciate you taking the time to write.

Sincerely,

CINDY HYDE-SMITH

United States Senator

CHS/RR

Reply from Sen Wicker re: funding for Ukraine:

Thank you for contacting me regarding American assistance for Ukraine.  Mississippians should always have a voice in important foreign policy matters, and I am glad to have the benefit of your views on this issue.

I believe the aid provided to Ukraine supports our country's national interest.  Vladimir Putin is intent on rebuilding the old Soviet empire by force.  In his unprovoked attack on the Ukrainian people, Putin has abducted women and children, hunted civilians, and trapped millions of families without power in the cold and dark of winter.  American and European assistance has allowed Ukraine to destroy a significant portion of Russia's military capabilities at a fraction of what it would cost us to do so.  Strong support for Ukraine sends a clear message to China, Iran, and North Korea.  It deters their imperial ambitions, which could pull the United States into a larger, more costly war.

Taxpayers must have confidence that the United States’ aid to Ukraine is spent responsibly and effectively.  I worked closely with my Senate Republican colleagues to demand the appointment of a lead Inspector General for Ukraine, providing significant oversight for all funding appropriated for Ukraine aid.  Additionally, our country's aid has encouraged European nations to increase their own military preparedness.  This enhances the effectiveness of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization as our European allies shoulder more of the collective defense burden.

Be assured I will keep your comments in mind as the Senate considers further military or humanitarian assistance for Ukraine.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can ever be of assistance.

With best wishes, I am

            Sincerely yours,

            Roger F. Wicker
            U.S. Senate
