Can a Felon Vote?
25 May 2026:
This month one of my Book Clubs read “The New Jim Crow” by Michelle Alexander. Much of Alexander’s discussion centered around the destruction of people’s lives due to our prison system. She wasn’t talking only about the convicted. She included the family of; the friends of and society as a whole.
One of the points that sparked my interest concerned the rights denied a convicted felon. We all know about the voting controversy. But did you know a felon has to check the “have you been convicted of a felony” box on various applications? This would include Section 8 Housing; food stamps; jobs; etc.
So, I thought to myself: “Isn’t there a convicted felon who is voting by mail and living in government housing at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave in Washington, D.C.”?
Hmmm….
This led me to research what is necessary to restore a convicted felon’s voting rights in the State of Florida. This is what I found:
A convicted felon is eligible to register and vote if the person has completed all terms of his or her sentence. What are those terms?
1. Completion of “prison or jail time”.
2. Completion of “parole, probation or other forms of supervision”.
3. “Payment of the total amount of all fines, fees, costs and restitution ordered as part of the felony sentence.”
So, I guess we need to add “have you been convicted of a felony” to the paperwork one files to run for President of these United States of America.
In the meantime, let’s contact our elected officials to give them yet another reason to kick this bum out of our White House.
Letter #1 by BT (felons)1. Completion of “prison or jail time”.
2. Completion of “parole, probation or other forms of supervision”.
3. “Payment of the total amount of all fines, fees, costs and restitution ordered as part of the felony sentence.”
To the best of my knowledge, none of these requirements have been met and yet there he sits in our White House bragging about how he votes by mail because he is the President while demanding voting by mail for other folks should be against the law.
Another reason to impeach this convicted felon.
Sincerely,
Please remember to report your letter writing activity to the Letter Committee by replying to the Monday Morning Email.
